USA TODAYThe New York Jets will be without the leader of their offense as they try to avoid an 0-2 start.Quarterback Sam Darnold has mononucleosis and will miss Monday night’s game against the Cleveland Browns, coach Adam Gase announced Thursday.Gase indicated that Darnold could miss multiple games with the illness, for which he is still undergoing tests. Trevor Siemian will step in as the Jets’ starter. He has not played since the 2017 season, when he started 10 games for the Denver Broncos.Gase said Darnold was not sick during the Jets’ 17-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
