Serena Williams Refuses To Answer Questions About Friend Meghan Markle: ‘Good Try’

Serena Williams is no snitch!

The professional tennis player, 38, chose to stay mum when asked questions about pal Meghan Markle at the Australian Open on Monday, January 20.

“Your good friend, Meghan Markle, who attended your last two slams, and Harry, have taken a move, a stance that many people think is extraordinary and historic. What are your feelings about that? Have you spoken to her?” a reporter asked her, according to The New York Times’ Ben Rothenberg.

“Yeah, I have absolutely no comments on anything with that,” Williams replied. “But good try. You tried. You did good.”

As RadarOnline.com readers know, Markle, 38, and Williams have been friends for years — ever since the Duchess of Sussex was an actress on the show Suits.

After Markle married Prince Harry in May 2018, the stars stayed close. Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, attended Markle and Harry’s wedding, and Markle flew to New York — missing Queen Elizabeth’s Highland Games event at Balmoral Castle — to cheer Williams on at the U.S. Open in September 2019. Markle also watched her friend play against Simona Halep in the Wimbledon final in July 2019. Photos from the event showed Markle clapping for Williams while in the royal box with Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton. The duchesses attended the same event together one year prior.

Despite their changing lives and growing families, Markle and Williams have always been there for each other. Radar previously reported that Williams attended Markle’s New York City baby shower, and gave her tips to help manage her high-profile life after her wedding to Harry, 35. Williams also gifted Markle a few items from her self-titled fashion line, Serena. In October 2019, Markle famously wore a trendy grey blazer ($145) designed by her pal on an outing with Harry.

Readers know the Sussexes recently decided to step down as senior royals and resign their royal titles. They are now moving to Canada to start a peaceful new life with their son, Archie, and are working to become financially independent while still supporting the monarchy.
