SportsPulse: The NFL season is finally here. Here’s how our writers see the season playing out with their bold predictions and who will be holding the Lombardi trophy in Miami.
USA TODAYThe NFL’s much-ballyhooed 100th season finally begins Thursday night.Unfortunately, if USA TODAY Sports’ — apparently not so fearless — staff of league experts is to be believed, there won’t be much drama in the NFL’s centennial campaign. With the exception of me — and I enjoy being right more than your average Chicago Bear — all of our prognosticating panelists believe the New Orleans Saints will overcome two years of dramatic playoff heartbreak by celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their lone Super Bowl triumph by adding another Lombardi Trophy.Welp.There’s only slightly less variance among the non-Davis crowd as it pertains to the AFC champions, with a split among last year’s conference finalists, the Patriots and Chiefs.Thankfully, there’s significantly less unanimity when it comes to picking season-ending awards finalists, though it appears Cardinals QB Kyler Murry and Steelers LB Devin Bush have the inside track on their respective rookie of the year awards. But, as the saying goes, games aren’t played on paper … or in HTML code. But without further ado, this is how we see the 2019 regular season, playoffs and postseason awards circuit unfolding.***Follow USA TODAY Sports’ Nate Davis on Twitter @ByNateDavisAutoplayShow ThumbnailsShow CaptionsLast SlideNext Slide
