“It looks like Pete and Kaia are over. It got very overwhelming for Kaia. Pete has a certain M.O. and he’s very intense to his girlfriends. Kaia is only 18 and it’s a lot to deal with,” a source told Page Six on January 14.

Kaia and Pete went public in October 2019 and their romance quickly heated up. In an interview with PAPER magazine in November 2019 he admitted that he falls in love intensely. “Sometimes when you put so much on someone, it overwhelms them, and then they don’t know if they could come close to that. Or if they can keep up with it. So, it’s very off-putting to some,” he said.

“[Kaia] doesn’t know if she wants to continue in their relationship. [She] wasn’t comfortable with what she saw and doesn’t know if she can handle it. What she saw happen with Pete was very concerning and scary for her … She cares about Pete and wants him to get better,” the source told E!.

Pete revealed in 2016 that he was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder and has been very candid about his mental health since. In December 2019, he hinted at going to get treatment again during the “Weekend Update” segment on SNL. “I’m going on a little ‘vacation.’ You know, the kind of vacation where insurance pays for some of it, and they take your phone and shoelaces,” he said. “And you have roommates but it stills costs like, $100,000.”
