Absolutely everything we know about the Lizzie McGuire sequel

Hey now, hey no-ow, Lizzie McGuire is back on Disney! And yes, this is what dreams are made of. Last week, Hilary Duff and Walt Disney Company went public with their announcement that a Lizzie McGuire spinoff will be headed to the new streaming site Disney . The series will reportedly pick up about a decade and a half after the original Lizzie McGuire and The Lizzie McGuire Movie left off. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming reboot and where you can watch.
As reported by TVLine, Hilary Duff will reprise her role as Lizzie, now a 30-year-old apprentice interior designer living in New York City with her chef fiancé. And yes, she’ll still have 13-year-old animated Lizzie living in her brain and spilling the tea every chance she gets.
When we reunite with Lizzie, she’ll be celebrating her 30th birthday with her friends. However, the party gets cut short by “some pretty big news,” as Duff told Good Morning America.

Our minds immediately went to Gordo (Adam Lamberg) showing up out of the blue. Or perhaps Miranda (Lalaine) finally returned from Mexico City, where she disappeared to promptly before graduating junior high. Then again, maybe her brother Matt (Jake Thomas) got into trouble and Lizzie needs to return home to bail him out of something.

“I think everyone’s dreams are going to be fulfilled by going on the journey of the show,” Duff told GMA. We have absolutely no doubts that this is true.
The new Lizzie McGuire is spearheaded by the original show creator Terri Minsky, who won several awards for the four-seasoned Disney show back in 2003 and 2004, according to Deadline.

Duff, who will continue her work on TV Land’s Younger while filming her new Disney show, and Minsky had tossed the idea about a Lizzie McGuire reboot around for several years. However, Duff said the timing never felt right until now.
“The conversations have gone on for a couple of years and the timing just didn’t seem right and now Lizzie is turning 30,” Duff told People on August 23rd. “I think it’s the right time to set back in and have her go along with you in your 30s and all the fun times, and all of the big monumental moments, and all of the challenges that you’re faced with.”
“I just thought that there was an opportunity there for her to be grown up and for her to be there for women again,” she said.

Filming for the untitled reboot has yet to kick off, and unfortunately, Duff and Disney have been mum about who else is slated to return.
But as we inch closer and closer to the launch of Disney on November 12th—the company’s competitive streaming service, which will cost $6.99 a month, and will be host to original content and Disney and Pixar classics—more information about the upcoming show will most definitely be revealed.

When Lizzie McGuire sang, “Hey now hey now, this is what dreams are made of,” she was talking about Hilary Duff returning to star in a Disney sequel series. What a time to be alive.— Alex Goldschmidt (@alexandergold) August 23, 2019

Let us pray that Lizzie McGuire still rocks mini ponytails, mega hair accessories, and tie-dye crop tops. And please, TV gods, allow she and Kate (Ashlie Brillault) to officially bury their hatchet and become NYC gal pals to Miranda’s chagrin. And GODS, PLEASE reignite the flame between Lizzie and Gordo and also explain how Lizzie dealt with the fame of being an Italian pop star for a few months and maybe get Aaron Carter to guest star again and, and, and!!!
We clearly have high hopes for this series, Disney. Take our money and give us all the nostalgia.
